Meet The Tree-Top Bakers
 
Now into our fifth market year, we're a couple of South Whidbey bakers who love good food and have a strong interest (some call it passion) for European and American baked goods. We're at the Bayview Farmers Market from 10 am to 2 pm Saturdays from late April through October.

Each week we bake at least five varieties of hand-crafted breads, an assortment of fresh-baked breakfast items, cookies, special pastries and cakes that are sold on a rotating basis. Check our website each week for our baking schedule and what we will be offering. Updates are posted by Wednesdays.

Tree-Top Baking is a venture of Larry Lowary (right) and Gerry Betz (left) whose lives have been mixed and mingled with bakeries most of their lives. Lowary, whose grandfather was a baker in Chicago, has been working with breads for more than 20 years. Betz (whose mother proudly boasted he baked his first cake when he was six years old) has been a professional baker, bakery manager, product developer and bakery owner. Both baked at and managed bakeries for Larry's Markets before moving to Whidbey Island nine years ago.

  • We're proud to be charter members of the Bread Bakers Guild of America (BBGA), a diverse group of bakers, bakery owners and serious home bakers, whose mission is  "to shape the knowledge and skills of the artisan baking artisan baking community through education."

  • We continue our education with classes at the San Francisco Baking Institute and through participation in baking seminars and programs around the country.
